The Health and Safety Executive is running two regulatory reviews and would welcome feedback. Both close in September.
Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
This review is separate from the recent consultation, though it uses the evidence collected during that time. Feedback will help HSE build a better understanding of how CAR 2012 works in practice.
Views and information are being sought through two surveys, one on identifying the presence of asbestos before any work commences, and one on asbestos surveyors. Both close at 11.59pm on 16 September 2026.

PPE at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022
PPER 22 extended employer and employee duties on personal protective equipment to limb (b) workers.
Under UK employment law the definition of a worker has two parts. Limb (a) describes employees who work under a contract of employment. Limb (b) describes workers who generally have a more casual employment status and work under a contract for service, such as freelance couriers, casual agency staff and some zero-hours contract staff in the gig economy.
HSE is gathering views from businesses that engage limb (b) workers and from the workers themselves to understand how the regulations are operating and whether they continue to meet their intended objectives.
There are separate surveys for employers and for workers, both closing at 11.59pm on 18 September 2026.
Working with asbestos without proper training is illegal
Building owners, landlords and anyone working in building and allied trades must check what training is needed to comply with the law.
Every employer must make sure that anyone liable to disturb asbestos during their normal work, including supervisors, receives the correct level of training so they can work safely without risk to themselves or others.

HSE currently runs two asbestos campaigns offering practical guidance and support.
Asbestos and You includes a free-to-download quick guide for trades, with practical guidance for tradespeople on common examples of asbestos and where it can be found.
Asbestos: Your Duty provides guidance on the legal duties of building owners, landlords and those responsible for maintenance and repair, and includes resources such as asbestos register and management plan templates.
