Lee Marley Group opens the door to scaffolding careers as part of NASC work experience pledge

One of the most effective ways to tackle the scaffolding sector's skills shortage is to take the industry directly to the people who have never considered it as a career. That is exactly what Lee Marley Group has been doing and the results are already showing.

In partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions and Taylor Wimpey, Lee Marley Group recently welcomed candidates from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to their Leven Road project site for a scaffolding workshop, delivered as part of the NASC Work Experience Pledge.

The session introduced participants to Lee Marley Group and the scaffolding profession, covering apprenticeship pathways and the wider range of career routes available within the industry from scaffolders and supervisors through to designers, estimators and project managers. A guided tour of the live Leven Road construction project then brought those conversations to life, giving participants a first-hand look at the skill, precision and professionalism involved in working on a major site.

The response was clear. Four participants have already been shortlisted to begin a career in Lee Marley Group's scaffolding division in June 2026.

The workshop forms part of NASC's Work Experience Pledge, launched at ScaffEx25 in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, which set out an ambition to deliver 5,000 scaffolding work experience placements across the UK in 2026. Initiatives like Lee Marley Group's Tower Hamlets workshop are exactly the kind of activity that will make that target a reality; reaching people in their own communities and giving them a genuine, tangible route into the industry.

Scaffolding is a skilled, professional and financially rewarding career, and workshops like this play a vital role in making sure the next generation knows it. NASC is proud to support Lee Marley Group and all members who are stepping up to deliver on the Work Experience Pledge.
